Untitled

Teardrops fall, a family torn apart
Swollen eyes flutter open with pain
A broken child cries in the dark
As a mother hangs her head in shame.

A drunken father staggers across the room
Lashing out, reason unknown.
The putrid stench of ignorance consumes.
As the boy cowers in fear in the dark, alone.

The harsh, cold iron hand reaches out,
Grabbing for the frozen child.
The crash of a glass door echoes throughout
A confused crumpled boy tossed aside
Without remorse, with deadly style.

The boy learns to hate, unable to trust
This broken child, now a broken man.
Broken promises and tears mix with the dusk.
Memories serve only as a deterrent a harsh reprimand.

With each attempt to move forward
His jaded reflections holds steadfast
His self loathing now intensely strong.
Unable to progress, he resides in the past.
His life, cruel and so now very wrong.

Childhood memories flooded with cruel malice
Amidst the tears and pain, the words of T.S. Eliot resonate.
Brings with them renewed comfort and solace.
Time begins to heal, time to perhaps move past the hate.

Perhaps life no longer should be abhorrent
He yearns to be loved, needs to trust.
As the child now becomes the parent.
Never wanting to raise his hand in drunken disgust.

His son, shall never see the dark
As his life begins anew.
Shall never feel the unrelenting pain.
From the hand which lashed out in drunken shame.
This is a time of rebirth
